What does a fleet key service include?
Fleet key problems don't feel urgent until a van sits idle because its only key went home with a driver, or a crew loses a morning looking for the spare. Here's what we do for businesses:
- Spare keys for every vehicle, cut and programmed, so no van depends on a single key
- Erasing lost and unreturned keys, so a missing key can't start the vehicle
- Numbered key tags and a simple sign-out system, so you know which key is where
- Lockouts and broken keys on work vehicles, at any hour
We do the work at your yard, lot or job site, so vehicles stay in service. Dispatch runs 24/7, so visits can happen before or after shifts.
What should we do when a driver leaves without returning the keys?
Treat it like a lost key. Even if you trust the person, you can't know where that key ends up.
| Step | What it does |
|---|---|
| Erase the missing key from the vehicle | Updates the immobilizer's list of approved keys so the old one won't start the engine. Possible on most vans and pickups. |
| Clear old remotes | On most vehicles we can remove old remotes at the same time, so the buttons stop unlocking the van. |
| Keep the van locked with the remote | An erased key's blade can still turn the door lock by hand, so lock with the remote and keep the van in a secure lot. |
| Change the lockbox or key cabinet code | If drivers knew the code, it isn't secret anymore. |
| Update your key log | Note the date, the vehicle and which keys are valid now. |
Collect keys at the exit meeting, the same way you'd collect a company phone or fuel card. It's the cheapest fix there is.

Call (647) 367-8113How do you set up a spare key program for company vans?
- We go through the fleet with you and note each vehicle's key type and how many working keys it has.
- Every vehicle gets at least one programmed spare. Vehicles down to a single key get done first.
- Each key gets a numbered tag. The number links to your vehicle list, not the plate, so a lost key doesn't tell anyone which van it opens.
- Spares go in a locked key cabinet or lockbox at your shop, with a sign-out sheet.
- You keep a list of which keys exist for which vehicle, so the next lost key is a quick erase and replace.
The same thinking works for your building. A master key system controls who can open the shop, gates and storage rooms, and if you manage several properties, see our property manager services.
Which work vans and trucks can you do?
Most of what you see in Toronto work fleets, including Ford Transit, E-Series and F-Series, Chevrolet Express and Silverado, GMC Savana and Sierra, Ram ProMaster and Ram pickups, Nissan NV, and Toyota Tacoma and Tundra.
Some vehicles are dealer jobs. Many Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans need keys ordered through the dealer, and some brand-new models aren't supported by independent tools yet. Heavy trucks and specialty equipment vary, so ask. Send us your list and we'll tell you upfront which vehicles we can do and which need the dealer.
How much do fleet key services cost?
It depends on the number of vehicles, the key types and whether any are all-keys-lost jobs. Older vans with chip keys are a very different job from new pickups with smart keys. We price it vehicle by vehicle before we start, so you can decide which ones to do first. There's no call-out fee.
